Post War Glamour Girls – Chipper

Leeds post-punk quartet Post War Glamour Girls return with a new tune ‘Chipper’ from their forthcoming third album ‘Swan Songs’ (via Hide & Seek Records).  It’s a rumbling raging beast of tune which sees frontman and lyricist James Smith at his frenzied best, spitting fire and ire. More wrathful in fact than Mark E.Smith upon hearing the dreaded salutation ‘last orders at the bar, ladies and gents’. Bassist Alice Scott’s vocals provide the calm to James’s storm, and the track, James tells us, is about ‘looking after your brain’

The album itself promises to tackle themes of stress, anxiety, depression, the class system, religion, war and government. And to get ‘in the zone’  the band decamped to the remote village of Skerray on the North Coast of Scotland with producers Jamie Lockhart and Lee Smith of Greenmount Studios (Pulled Apart By Horses, I Like Trains, Frank Turner, The Vaccines)

James explains their thinking “We decided with this album that we wanted to get lost during the recording process. To let it consume us entirely throughout. No distractions from our day to day lives. No dashing mid-take to get to work on time. No phone calls from our landlords. No other commitments. Just two solid weeks of living it.”
