Track Of The Day – Bird – ‘Ophelia’

If you thought Bird were good before (and we did) prepare for a visit to your local purveyor of socks to replace the ones that will have been blown off* by ‘Ophelia’ the trio’s lead track from their new Bill Ryder Jones produced EP.  The band have yet again spread their creative wings and currently seem to be effortlessly scaling new artistic heights with every release.  This is in many ways the sound that Bird were always destined to make and is probably a defining moment in their musical evolution.  ‘Ophelia’ channels all the dark, strange bleak, beauty that has become their trademark and fashions it into a moment of perfect clarity and crystalline beauty.  Of course, we always knew they were more than capable of this and the last 18 months has seen the band’s music slowly morph into something truly special.  The sky’s the limit for these Birds (and Alex 😉 )

*Yes, yes, we know, this is the only review you’ll ever read containing THAT particular line outside of a Carry On film 😉

Bird is  Adele Emmas (singer, songwriter) Sian Williams (guitar, harmonies) and Alexis Samata (drums)

  1. Ahhh – I’m loving this one. A touch of ethereal goth. The stark simplicity of basic instruments (bass guitar, drums and unadorned guitar) allows the voices to take their rightful place out front. A quality track!
