Track Of The Day – Black Doldrums – She Devine

0

Black Doldrums merge the disorientating sonic washes of MBV allied to a swaggering Mary Chain sense of insouciant cool to produce a majestic reverb-laden tower of a song on their new single ‘She Devine’.

Black Doldrums are singer-guitarist Kevin Gibbard and drummer Sophia Lacroix and ‘She Devine ‘ is also the title track of their forthcoming Ep which includes their epic previous single  ‘Those With A Rope Around Their Neck (Don’t Always Hang). The EP also includes more delicate moments such as, ‘Hearts That Beat, Will Never Mend’, and as a whole, the release explores themes of the divine and femininity.

Specifically, “She Divine” refers to Aldous Huxley’s 1954 psychedelia-induced masterpiece ‘The Doors of Perception’ where constant reference is made to the search for divinity and how all cultures are united in the need for that same search, despite their opposing outcomes.
