The Von Pip Christmas Podcast 2020

The ripple effect Christmas Past, present and future – I’ve been compiling Xmas podcasts for over 9 years now. On my own site and also for Strangeways Radio, Zoo Radio and IWFM Radio. It began as a kind of reaction to people’s erroneous assertion that Xmas music was terrible, by definition. Which was nonsense. These folk were clearly listening to the wrong Christmas music ( is there such a thing ? Well yes as Robbie Williams has proved this year ). Anyway, about 5 years ago I was struggling to find time to compile new Xmas music and what I was finding wasn’t really jingling my bells. So I wasn’t going to bother …. And then I got an email out of the blue …

A chap who lives in the States emailed me and told me he and his wife had been enjoying my Xmas podcasts over the years and usually saved them till Xmas Eve to listen to together. It became a little tradition. Then one terrible year he lost his partner and sadly spent his first Xmas alone. He went on to say that listening to one of my Xmas podcasts that year really helped him. I was very touched and thought- well” I’ll have to carry on” and have done ever since. You never know what effect these little actions have and the comfort music can bring.

As I often say I’m a cynic all year but come December I have a month off and get into the holiday season. This one will be different and difficult for many, it can be what we make it, so here’s 2020’s Xmas podcast which has a bumper selection of incredible festive tunes covering funny, bittersweet, miserable, joyful and everything in between

2020’s festive releases see Girlhouse releasing the sublime “Ugly Xmas Sweater Party” which is going to be a perennial classic in VP Towers, PINS cover The Ramones giving it a ghostly 60’s Spector vibe, Sara Noelle conjures spectral beauty, Nicole Atkins, Willie J Healey, Warm Digits, Poppy, Crocodiles all release superb original seasonal tunes, and there are covers and some classics from previous years such as Frightened Rabbit, Owl John, Eux Autres and Katie Malco. Enjoy
