Track Of The Week – Blood Red Shoes – Morbid Fascination

To be honest I thought I’d posted about this last week. But I hadn’t and can only conclude I am losing the few marbles I had left.

Anyway, it’s a new single from Blood Red Shoes who I refuse to accept have been a unit for 17 years. If that makes them feel old imagine how I feel!

It’s up there with their very best work too, as is often the case with a Blood Red Shoes track there’s an air of cinematic creeping menace, of a dystopian world, crashing and burning as it jackhammers its way into your head. It’s something of a mystery why the band haven’t quite broken through to that next level of success when far lesser bands have. Perhaps its down to wanting to retain creative control?  Then again it could be as simple as we live in a country with questionable taste. Y’know the one that voted for Brexit, the one in which polling suggests the majority still hold the incongorus, evidentially flawed  opinion that  Boris Johnson is simply “doing his best,” and one that still watches “Mrs Browns Boys.”

Blood Red Shoes are and always will be a fucking fantastic band and this new track is taken from their forthcoming album “GHOSTS ON TAPE” which the duo of Laura- Mary Carter and Stephen Ansell promise will be their darkest work to date.  So that’ll be pretty dark then.

“Ultimately this album is an invitation”, explains Steven. “It’s us saying, this is our world, these are our darkest thoughts and feelings – our ghosts – caught on tape. You are welcome to join us. Come and embrace the strange”.
