Track Of The Day (2) PINS – ‘Stay True’

PINS return …and we’ve missed them – in a literal and figurative sense, having caught a meagre five minutes of them at Sound City and completely failing to see them at all at Dot 2 Dot Festival recently.  Still we can take solace in the fact that their new single, a double a-side is due out on Bella Union on 22nd July  –  ‘Stay True’  backed with  ‘Get with Me’.

‘Stay True’ starts with scratchy guitars and spectral girl group harmonies before Faith’s strident vocal take control.  It’s certainly a tune that elegantly highlights just why so many bloggers have been waxing lyrical about this Manchester quartet for the last year or so.  In truth this is more Siouxsie meets Joy Division than girl gang garage rock and at times you half expect Faith to start reciting poetry ala Patti Smith over the increasingly agitated guitars and thunderous percussion. It’s an eerie, intricate menacing little fucker of a song that bodes very well for début album the girls have been recording in Liverpool. We are captivated  once more.
