Video Première – Lara Smiles – ‘Mind Off It’

Today we have the première of singer songwriter Lara Smiles latest video ‘ Mind Off It,’ an infectious mix of driving synths, soaring vocals and coruscating guitars. A tune which starts off with big throbbing sleazy slabs of synth action and then gives way to chiming guitars and Lara’s perfectly delivered vocal. Of course no blog post is complete these days without some sort of random often ill judged comparison to the past and we have no wish to be spoilsports… so …imagine a more upbeat Talk Talk fronted by Maria McKee in her Lone Justice days Wink and if that’s not enough for you the video also features leather pants and guitars. What’s not to like?

We first came across Lara’s music through our work on Tom Robinson’s Fresh on the Net website when we heard the sublime Spectoresque ‘ A Million Times’ and also from her collaborations with Northampton electropop meisters Strangers. In fact if you check out her soundcloud page it’s impossible not to be singularly impressed by the eclectic nature of her music. It’s music that doesn’t necessarily fit into any particular genre other than ‘f**king excellent. ‘  She’s set to release her debut album produced by the legendary Youth in early 2015.  One to watch.
