Track Of The Day – PINS – Serve The Rich

0

Manchester’s PINS are back with a new song ‘Serve The Rich’ as the band continue to push their sound in interesting new directions whilst still retaining all that made them a fascinating proposition when they first arrived on the scene back in 2011.

‘Serve The Rich’ is produced by The Kills’ Jamie Hince and is driven by a mesmerising guitar riff and a relentless almost tribal beat over which singer Faith Vern delivers a compelling ‘no fucks given’ vocal. It’s one of their finest songs to date and could certainly be taken as an acerbic statement on the way the industry works.

Of the single, the band say “Jamie played us a reworked version of the demo and we were all blown away. I felt like he’d reached into my head and created the sound I’d been imagining.

The track is about how sometimes we feel like we only exist to make money for other people, it’s a swizz. We are promised things by saviours, these people who have come to rescue us, but it’s not true. Serve The Rich was my opportunity to assert myself’ I’m saying that we as PINS, musicians, women, Labour voters and feminists, are here to save the kids, we’re here to save each other, we’re here to save ourselves.” And over the years PINS have been their own saviours running their own DIY label which has shown them to have a great ear for emerging artists, previously releasing music by bands such as September Girls, Post War Glamour Girls, Abjects, and Cheri Cher Jaguar.

Following on from their recent Bad Thing EP release, which included the single ‘Aggrophobe’ featuring Iggy Pop, ‘Serve The Rich’ feels like the beginning of an exciting new chapter for PINS, and perhaps their most rewarding one yet.
