Ones To Watch 2018 – No.1 – Yassassin

Ones To Watch 2018 Yassassin

And at No1 it’s Anna, Joanna, Moa, Raissa & Ruth Aka Yassassin. The band whose members hail from Sweden, Italy, England and Australia have only been together just over a year and a half and took their collective name in the wake of Bowie’s death as a way of celebrating his life and his creativity (Yasssassin was written by David Bowie for the 1979 album Lodger.)

They’ve released a couple of thrilling singles this year followed by their debut EP “Vitamin Y” which provided ample evidence that they are without a doubt one of THE most exciting young emerging collectives we’ve encountered in recent years. Playful strident, joyfull confrontational, slightly unhinged and empowering they combine pop melodies with a punk attitude and restless guitars allied to the sort of off-kilter hooks bands like the AuPairs used to excel at.  A fab band and obviously we’ll be hoping they take things to the next level during 2018.
