Ghum who we tipped back in 2019 before the world knew the name COVID 19 return with a new track and news of their debut album which will be entitled “Bitter” and drops on June 17th .
Ghum is comprised of members hailing from London, Spain and Brazil, and consists of Laura Guerrero Lora (vocals), Marina MJ (bass), Jojo Khor (guitar) and Vicki Butler (drums). They met after bassist Marina placed an advert on Gum tree (hence the name Ghum). Their new single “Some People” is a soaring slice of atmospheric visceral post-punk, replete scything guitar sound that’s becoming something of a trademark and a strident vocal that conjures up Siouxsie Sioux and Jehnny Beth of Savages.
Laura Guerrero Lora shed more light on the song and Lydia Garnett directed video : “This song is about getting to know someone and having the fear of hurting them, because love has turned a bit hopeless and unexciting. Not trusting oneself to be able to love someone after not falling in love for a long time. We wanted to have a bit of fun with a video that was diverse and inclusive. Lydia has created a visual world where a fun, camp narrative plays out. Taking inspiration from 90’s pop videos, John Waters movies and the recent Spice Girls documentary series, she created a humorous, unpredictable, queer-friendly world for us to live in.”
