The Joy Hotel : Jeremiah

The Joy Hotel, a musical collective hailing from Glasgow, has unveiled news of their inaugural album, “Ceremony,” alongside their debut single, “Jeremiah.” The track delves into the intricacies of grappling with uncertainties and navigating through conflicting emotions, particularly when faced with the inevitability of mortality. Having experienced the band’s captivating live performance last year, I sensed something truly exceptional about them. “Jeremiah” encapsulates their distinctiveness; it’s a sweeping, cinematic debut that showcases the band’s prowess in crafting introspective and potent music. While drawing from influences from the past, they skillfully mould these elements into a sound that is unmistakably their own.

Vocalist Emme Woods says about the song: “Jeremiah is a song for the end of the world from two opposing perspectives; one side welcoming the end, believing God will be there to meet them and judge them mercifully, the other in a state of existential anxiety as the world spirals towards collapse.”

The band embarked on the recording of  “Ceremony,” at Rockfield Studios in Monmouth, Wales, dedicating eleven days to the process. Their sonic palette fuses elements of pop, country, and psych music, weaving together six-part vocal harmonies, noise rock, with witty, insightful yrics.

“Ceremony” seeks to explore profound themes embedded within mundane existence, seeking to unearth moments of inspiration amidst the ordinary.

Additionally, the album will be complemented by a short film titled “Come The Ringing Bell,” chronicling the creative journey behind its inception.
