Cork four-piece The Altered Hours can simultaneously pummel your senses whilst also contriving to soothe your fevered mind. This is certainly evident on their recent release, the visceral yet celestial “Radiant Wound” a track inspired by their dissatisfaction with the spiraling (some might say criminally high ) cost of rent in their hometown. It’s a track that embraces the ‘beautiful noise’ and is certainly a powerful and immersive listen that expertly combines elements of new wave, grunge, shoegaze and psychedelia.
“ The message with this track is simple, we love the city that has had such an impact on us as a band,” said co-lead singer Cathal MacGabhann about the track. “Having already lived through one recession, and now with the current housing crisis ongoing, ‘Radiant Wound’ is a shared rage we feel towards these growing issues. It’s one from the guts,” he explained.
The group has recently signed to Pizza Pizza Record and all things being well ( which we can’t bank on given the last 18 months ) the band will be joining Fontaines DC ( who had to pull out of the Lattitude festival due to Covid) on their UK tour.
