Track Of The Day – Young Summer – ‘Severing Ties’

We first stumbled across Young Summer when she uploaded a rather mournful stripped back piano led version of the Human League’s electro pop classic  ‘Don’t You Want Me’. Since then she’s released a well received debut album Siren, and her latest tune ‘Severing Ties’ shows how to craft electronic leaning commercial pop of the sort that doesn’t make you want to eat glass or ram a knitting needle down your ear. This is probably due to the evocative nature of Bobbie Allen’s voice (for it is she who is Young Summer) and the fact that she can write a tune. ‘Severing Ties’ is apparently  “about deciding to walk away from someone who’s been taking more than they’re giving”  …. Why does that description remind us of our local MP ?
