REDTRACK

“Addicted To Lust” by Redtrack

RedTrack’s Double-A sided ‘Pole Dancer/Addicted to Lust’, the third release from the Southend band, co-arranged and featuring on backing vocals The Buzzcocks legend Pete Shelley, is released March 30th. Dave M. Allen (Cure producer) and Mark Ralph (Filthy Dukes) produced and engineered the single.

“I get asked to be involved with lots of bands – the reason I chose RedTrack is because Billy writes such great songs and the band are something very special live”

– Pete Shelley

The single is available to pre-order via 7 Digital, online http://www.7digital.com/artists/redtrack/pole-dancer-addicted-to-lust/ or via SMS – text REDTRACK to 78789.

Texts cost £1.50 plus normal operator charges.

RedTrack were born late in 2006 and quickly the band were “discovered” by London management/ production company Northern Blue Music. At the time RedTrack had no studio experience and about eight songs. Northern Blue planted RedTrack in Maple Recording Studios in Southend-on-Sea and by March 2007 the band were deemed ready to record their debut single.

The bands were due in the studio to record ‘Pretty Boy/Inside’ on March 11, 2007. The day before their studio debut, Phil was attacked by two men wearing tracksuits and baseball caps. The attackers shot Phil in the leg with an air-rifle and hacked him with a meat-cleaver on the head and across his forearm. Phil had 20 stitches in his head and needed emergency microsurgery on the severed tendons in his arm. Phil permanently lost the use of two fingers on his left hand. Not good for anyone, let alone a bass player the day before he was due to record his debut single.

In August, 2007, RedTrack got back in the studio with Phil on the bass and the band were able to record and release their first single (Pretty Boy/Inside) in October 2007.

The single received some great reviews and was featured on Steve Lamacq’s Radio One show. On the strength of the single and their great live shows Red Track also got some great supports with bands including The Maccabees and The View.

You can catch RedTrack live on the following dates

DAS WANDERLUST

‘Horses For Courses’ released 18th May on ‘Don’t Tell Clare’ records

Originally recorded 18 months ago during a disastrous and short lived dalliance with a popular indie label, Das Wanderlust´s eagerly awaited album is finally due for release. After hiccups and let-downs along the way including numerous personnel changes and an almost terminal lack of cash, ‘Horse For Courses´ will finally land on the shelves this May on the super-DIY Don’t Tell Clare imprint. Stop-starts aside, they can now boast having held down a stable line-up for more than a year now (!), a growing European fan base, and an album some critics are already calling ‘easily the best debut album we’ve never heard´.

Das Wanderlust are, Laura Susan Simmons (Vox, Keyboard) Andrew Richard Elliott (Guitars, Misc.) and Wesley John Stephenson (Drums). The overall sound is hard to classify – critics and fans have called them noise pop, art rock, wrong pop, experimental pop, riot grrrl, amongst other things… and whilst each description may have its own merits, it seems rather missing the point that this is the sound of a band just making music exactly how they want to, without worrying about genres, trends, or haircuts. In spirit Das Wanderlust are closest to artists such as Fiery Furnaces, Deerhoof, Melt Banana, The Fall, and anyone else with a general disregard for rigidly adhering to conventional song structure or instruments (the album features bass clarinets, flutes, saxophones, kitchen utensils, field recordings and more).  The unwritten rule here is cram as many ideas into as short a space as time as possible, often on top of each other. No chorus is ever repeated a third time, and there are no solos.

Das Wanderlust are DIY in the extreme; everything is done through them and unlike most other bands who have experienced similar levels of moderate success (in indie terms) they have no major label backing and totally self-managed; as in Elliott’s words, “Everytime we’ve tried to go against our DIY roots we get bitten on the arse!”

Championed by the likes of Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens and Marc Riley, ‘Horses For Courses´ is one of this years most anticipated albums

Retro Song Of The Week

“Little Bird By Moose

MOOSE

MOOSE

Moose were a British indie rock band who formed in London in 1990. The original line-up included Russell Yates (guitar, vocals), K.J. “Moose” McKillop (guitar), Damien Warburton (drums), and Jeremy Tishler (bass). After Warburton and Tishler left the band they were replaced with Lincoln Fong (bass), his brother Russell (guitar), and Richard Thomas (drums). Other members have included Mig Moorland (drums) and Mick Conroy (keyboards).

Moose have been credited by some as being the first band to be called “shoegazers” which was inspired by an early gig of theirs at which Russell Yates read lyrics taped to the floor. Moose’s first three EPs, however, are their only releases which feature the intense guitar effects that characterize shoegazing. Beginning with their first full-length album, …”XYZ“, Moose started to lean more towards jangle pop with a slight country-tinge. The album sold poorly, and as a result they were dropped from Hut Records shortly after its release. Within the next few years the band would release two more full-length albums on Play It Again Sam. Despite a strong critical response, Moose’s albums continued to sell few copies. Following the release of their third album, “Live a Little Love a Lot“, Moose took an extended break from music only to return five years later with the release of “High Ball Me!“. “This River Will Never Run Dry” has been featured on the recent Britpop collection “The Brit Box.”
