Having featured Gretel Hänlyn previously as an essential new artist to keep your ears out for HERE it’s no surprise to discover she’s released another absolute beauty in the form of ‘Apple Juice’. Her powerful dark smokey vocals have a hint of Catrin Vincent from Another Sky or maybe Goth Marina (and The Diamonds) in terms of her range, although her sound is rather less pop-centric. Every release thus far has been nothing short of dazzling and “Apple Juice” is no exception.
Gretel explains the song’s inspiration: “Apple Juice is about holding yourself back, especially socially, and being very aware that you’re the only one that stands in your own way. I don’t like to take things too seriously and this song is meant to be light-hearted and it ends with me trusting that everything will be fine, I’m still learning.”
‘Apple Juice’ is the fourth and final taste of Hänlyn’s debut EP Slugeye, ahead of its release on May 5th via VLF Records. You can pre-order the EP HERE.
